Frequently asked questions

How much data can I store?

Each plan has a base amount of cloud storage included. 500 GB are included with the Pro and Pro Plus plans while the Pro Custom plan starts with 1 TB.  It's worth noting that our compression technology often yields a 2:1 ratio for normal business office data, so you will most likely be able to backup more than what you think.  And if you do need more storage, adding it a just a few simple clicks.

How long will my backup take?

The time it takes to backup your data depends on many factors, but primarily it is the quantity of data and the speed of your Internet that will have the greatest influence. Our software utilizes an "incremental forever" algorithm to minimize the amount of data that is transferred over the Internet after the initial full backup.  Only the changed pieces of data are sent which results in very quick backups.

I have a Mac and  a PC, can I backup both?

Of course! We have workstation agents for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.  Our software supports backing up over 20 different platforms.

Is it better to backup my data to the cloud or to a local storage?

We recommend both! The 3-2-1 rule is often used as a best practice for backups. You should have 3 copies of your data. Your original and 2 copies, 1 of which should be offsite. Cloud backup fits perfectly with this rule as a copy of your data is stored offsite in the cloud. With the Pro Plus plan, you can run backups to both local and cloud storage targets.

How secure is my data in the cloud?

Understandably, security should be a top concern for anyone handling your critical data. All data that flows through our network is encrypted while in motion and at rest.  In addition, every backup job can add an additional layer of AES-256 bit encryption that only you will have they key for. Just remember, don't forget your key, because even we will not be able to override your encryption. In addition to our security technology, you can read more about our physical data security at our data centers here.

Can't I just make a copy of my data to "Onedrive" or "GDrive" or "Dropbox"?

We certainly recommend backing up your data any way you can. If you only need a few files protected, manual backup solutions may work for you. But, there are many advantages to using our cloud backup solution -- far too many functions and features to list here, but be sure to about them here under the "Learn more" section.  You get complete protection for your entire machine including the operating system, applications, and data.  And now with Active Protection you even get real time protection against ransomware threats.

I already store my data in the cloud so I don't need backup do I?

Businesses are adopting cloud services more and more. While in many cases this does mean that you are getting better protection of your data than if you were storing it locally, it does not necessarily mean you are protected at a level that you require. For instance, many cloud service providers only maintain backups for their system level disaster recovery purposes and only for a limited time period. If you need to go back further than what they have kept, you many be out of luck. Don't assume your cloud service provider is doing backups for you.
